Surprisingly, this is one of the more important voices in the recorder family. It is pitched in F an octave higher than the Alto Recorder. The Sopranino was a favorite solo instrument in the Baroque era. Vivaldi’s so-called “Piccolo” concertos are in actuality for the Sopranino Recorder. Unlike the Garklein, it does possess the full range of two octaves and a major second. It is also far more comfortable on the hands (in other words, I personally can play this instrument comfortably).
